Wi-Fi help

Recently moved house and BT Fibre was not an option. Had to go with Virgin Media, download speed is good but wi-fi is awful. Kids constantly complaining they have to use phone data.
VM want another fiver a month for pods which I ain’t doing.
Are there any off the shelf wi-fi boosters out there I should look at.

I switched from Virgin to plusnet over a year ago, the stated (advertised) speed was much slower than Virgin, but in reality I notice no difference as the actual speeds are very similar.
I did install a £12 wifi extender I bought from amazon and it massively improved the wifi coverage.

Asus ZenWiFi XT8 (2 pack mesh system) you will get full speed even down the next street or bottom of the garden etc. Bit pricey £400 but worth every penny

I have 3 of the Amazon eero Beacon mesh WiFi extenders. Very good, speed is consistent, no dead spots, 15 devices, security and set up is very easy.
Had used VM previously, wifi coverage poor so plugged in Apple Airplay. I like the NAS and the coverage is fantastic.
My experience of 2.4Ghz is be careful, some specialist devices don't support the bandwidth.
Go for mesh..

I'm with Virgin and have noticed a drop in speeds lately.

First thought is to re-site your main WiFi modem to see if that improves the signal.
Then consider forcing WiFi to work on the 2.4Ghz band - that frequency can pass through walls and floors easier that the higher bandwidth (slower, but slower connectivity is better than no connectivity).
If you have any old mobile smart-phones lying around, consider turning them into mobile hot-spots homed on your main router - they effectively become boosters. Don't leave them connected to a power supply full time though as you run the risk of the battery over-heating and swelling up.
Better still, use an old WiFi modem to do the same thing (assuming you brought the one from your old drum with you). It should have the options on it's config page.

I have Virgin. Hub connected to a Tech IP wireless access point. Have 2 more WAPs in the house - have fast stable WiFi throughout

I put my Virgin WiFi box into modem mode so it comes into the house through virgin's box then goes into a very fast WiFi modem.
Actually I have a mesh system because I work at the other end of my flat and need fast WiFi.
Not cheap at about £350 but get 200 meg WiFi straight into my fast PC that I video edit on.
